Beatriz Neila celebrated her first podium in the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship at Donington Park in the UK in style with a popular second place yesterday, while also taking the fastest lap of the race on her #36 Ampito / Pata Prometeon Yamaha R7.
From fifth place on the grid, Neila was a key player in the epic fight for the win in the second round of the first motorcycling world championship for women – going wheel-to-wheel with her main rivals and compatriots Ana Carrasco, Sara Sanchez and Maria Herrera. The four Spaniards crossed the line within a second of each other, after swapping positions for much of the 12-lap race to the delight of the British fans.
A Best Lap Award from Race 1 meant that Neila started Race 2 from pole position, and though the #36 rider fought hard again today and almost secured third place on the last lap, she was unable to repeat her podium result and crossed the line in fourth place behind Sanchez.
Round 3 of the WorldWCR takes place next month at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, from 9-11 August.
Beatriz Neila – SP: P5 / Race 1: P2 / Race 2: P4
“Yesterday was my first time on the podium, so I’m super happy – the race was amazing! Five riders at the front was a difficult race because I had to manage the situation to arrive on the podium – it was difficult but also at the same time it was fun and I learned a lot. Today I started from pole, I had a good start but in the middle of the race I didn’t feel so comfortable with the bike and it was a bit strange. I was fighting for third position but in the end, I finished fourth very close to the podium. In the end I am a bit disappointed but overall, I am happy with the weekend because I made a good step. I want to thank all my team, Ampito and the fans who were here to enjoy the races. Jonathan and Loka are amazing teammates from Pata Prometeon Yamaha and help me a lot, also my family that support me always.”
